Parallel Intersections

Parallel Intersections is a collaborative book bringing together Marc Alter’s photography and my writing. Each two-page spread stages a dialogue between image and text: a poem written in response to a photograph, or a photograph created in response to a poem.

Below is a sample from the book.

The complete book is available for purchase at $10 per copy. Go to the Contact page and email a request.

To My Children

Do not fret about me —

I walk a different path than you.

We are not Bonsai trees.

We are not bricks.

We are fresh water.

Listen to your instinct, your intuition, your gut —

They are your guides, your personal gods.

You already know everything.

Believe that, honor that.

Nourish yourself — Forgive yourself.

We are all mistakes and failures.

That insight is as irrelevant

as a penny on the sidewalk.

Be generous to others;

they too are solo free climbers.

Reject their gods like you would reject

treatment for a disease that you do not have.

The oak tree is not a maple tree.

You are you.

Their gods will argue otherwise.

Resist the false idols.

Lift your chin, pull your shoulders back, stare down the night.

There is no better option.

Manifest your gods.

Allow your fresh water

to splash joyfully onto us.
